Thank you for posting. I just got the letter framed a few months ago and it's sitting over my whiskey bottles.

To honor those who have gone before us, who provided wisdom and insight to the past, and provide us an anchor in time that serves to remind us that the present moment is not eternal, is a good thing. To do it as father and son serves to mark our generational memory with humility and gratitude. Thank you, Son.

Foote was a phenomenal historian and, thankfully, he dedicated his talents to one of the most, if not the most, contentious times in American history.

We have him to thank for clarifying the importance of that war for our great nation.

Oh thank you for this, he helped a California girl who loved history understand the south she was forced to move to with honesty and compassion.

Love the story! I saw him once in a Memphis restaurant, where my father and I were having lunch. Burns’ documentary would not have been nearly as good without him.

The novelist's historian, in that he has beautiful prose and no foot/end notes.

I remember him in Ken Burns’ Civil War series. He had the most beautiful Southern accent!

You have my thoughts exactly! I had a crush on him - that voice and his twinkling eyes.
